An entrepreneurial Henry Joseph Langdon set sail from London with his wife and young son in 1852, settling in Melbourne during Gold Rush fever. Bringing champagne, brandy and chocolate supplies with him, he founded an enduring specialist food import business soon afterwards. The company is still going strong some 165 years later, and still held in the same family after five generations. Based in Derrimut, HJ Langdon prides itself on importing an extensive range of gourmet products from all around the globe.
Current chief executive Chris Langdon, wanted to future proof the company from increased energy costs. Beon Energy delivered a solar-powered solution installing 1564 photovoltaic solar panels. A smooth process completed on time and within budget, Chris was so impressed he requested another solar installation at his Bakery Craft factory (97 kW). He also referred Beon to a friend’s bathroom design company in Richmond, leading to an additional 67 kW solar install.
Beon further assisted Chris’ savvy economic focus by recommending HJ Langdon finance their solar installation using an Environmental Upgrade Agreement (EUA). An initiative of the Sustainable Melbourne Fund, the scheme brings property owners, banks and local councils together to finance carbon reduction projects. The agreements are designed to reduce investment risk for businesses, as they incorporate carbon reduction projects into normal operations.
