The Customer

Wilson Transformer Company (WTC) is the largest Australian-owned and based manufacturer of power and distribution transformers, operating two manufacturing facilities in Victoria. For more than 85 years, WTC has been designing and building superior transformer products and providing life-time management services to its customers across different sectors within the power industry, including power utilities, process industries, mining and oil & gas.

The Opportunity

Wilson Transformer Company has grown to become the largest Australian manufacturer of power and distribution transformers with offices in Australia and overseas. The extensive roof space at their headquarters in Glen Waverley presented the perfect opportunity to use solar generation to offset rising energy prices and deliver on their goal to improve environmental practices.

The Solution

The Beon Energy Solutions team worked with WTC to understand their priorities when it came to their solar installation.

The solution involved the design and construction of a 250kW solar system on one of Australia’s largest transformer manufacturers. This turnkey design, engineering and construction solution was delivered by Beon and Next Generation Electrical. The original and quite simple scope of the project later expanded to involve new experiences for the team including a structural roof upgrade to allow solar installation, the install of specialty rooftop safety equipment and the construction of a new Inverter plant room.

The final design included a total of 937 PV panels.
