Large-scale solar farm construction gets green light

February 20, 2017

Beon Energy Solutions (Beon) welcomes today’s announcement by Overland Sun Farming (Overland) that construction on three large-scale solar farms in the north west of Victoria will get underway this year.
Beon’s General Manager, Glen Thomson, said the company was proud to be supporting the project and was looking forward to working with Overland and its partners to realise these developments.
“The north west of Victoria has an enviable solar resource,” he said.
“The progress and competitiveness of large scale solar projects in the last 12 months has been tremendous, with many projects now moving close to financial close.
“In addition, advances in technology and changing market dynamics mean large scale renewables are increasingly commercially attractive, making it an exciting time for our industry.
“Our expanding capability in solar, coupled with the recent completion of the $38m Ararat Terminal Station for the new Ararat Wind Farm and the Elaine Terminal Station to connect the Mt Mercer Wind Farm prior to that demonstrated our capability to Overland and has given them great confidence,” Glen said.
“This project also represents good news for regional Victoria.
“Not only will the new sites collectively deliver 300MW of large-scale solar capacity into the electricity grid it will also generate significant regional investment, including new jobs, and give confidence to the growing renewables market.
“On the back of the Overland announcement and other recent successes, Beon will continue to leverage our expertise in the renewable energy space to work with our partners to bring large scale energy projects to fruition,” he added.
